Good Trouble Lives On: NYC Mass Action

  • Thomas Paine Park Thomas Paine Park New York, NY (map)

From disappearing immigrants and protestors to blatant disregard for hard-fought civil liberties, anti-democracy forces are working overtime to silence our voices. 60 years ago, Civil Rights activists marched in Selma in spite of state repression and peacefully demonstrated the hypocrisy of the U.S. government which refused to acknowledge their equal rights, deeming Black Americans and people of color as “second class citizens.” Now, the Trump administration is escalating from the same playbook, targeting all immigrants and claiming they do not have equal rights, calling in troops to stop protestors from using their voice and to block progress on issues we care about.

We can’t wait. We need Good Trouble now!

On July 17th, the anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing, New York City is joining people across the country to demand that New York stand up and protect our communities.

We’re demanding Governor Hochul and New York City enact the following:

  • Governor Hochul must convene a special session and immediately pass NY4All and No Masks for ICE.

  • Shut down 26 Federal Plaza to all immigration hearings until there is a guarantee of safety and enforcement of all civil rights

  • Bring home all kidnapped immigrants and reunite them with their families and communities

Join after court watch support and/or Mindful Rebels meditation.

We will be meeting in Thomas Paine Park, just north of Foley Square, at 5 PM. (official gathering time is 5:30) Wear white, bring flowers to commemorate lost friends, a water bottle and something to sit on, and your ID, just in case. We will be circling Federal Plaza and having a sit in and recruiting for "good trouble" in the future. We are co-sponsoring this non-arrestable event. Thousands are expected to join us.
