New Rebel Welcome Week

Ready to step up and make the action happen with XR NYC? Our movement runs on the fierce dedication of committed, collaborative volunteers.

Our working groups invite you to open New Rebel Welcome meetings to introduce the work each group does, discuss upcoming projects, identify open roles and share ideas. The first half of the meeting will be an opportunity for introductions, learning more about how our organizing structure works and identifying specific ways you can get involved. Working groups will conduct regular business in the second half of the meeting.

Not sure which group is the best fit? Try more than one! We’d love to connect and get to know new members better.

*We highly suggest attending an Orientation or a Climate Crisis Now talk before attending the meeting(s) of your choice.

Infrastructure: Monday, September 27th at 12:00 PM
Infrastructure handles the care and feeding of the systems that support all of our other working groups. From adding new pages onto our website, providing technical support for our speakers and teachers, maintaining our email list for our newsletter, running digital security trainings, or providing information for recruiting, we collaborate with almost every working group in XR NYC.
No technical knowledge required, just a general comfort around apps and widgets is enough! This work is time and location flexible so perfect if you only have an odd hour or two a week to spare but if you want to get more involved we are also currently looking for a coordinator to run the show!

Anchor Circle: Thursday, October 14th at 7:30
We invite new rebels to observe an anchor circle meeting. The anchor circle, consisting of one coordinator selected by each working group, handles decisions that affect all of the working groups and the movement at large. The anchor circle works out policy and questions of how work gets done that cannot be dealt with by one working group alone or that affect more than two working groups. The anchor circle is purposely kept small so as to allow for efficient meetings and decision making.

In XR NYC, most decisions of import are made within or between working groups. We can’t promise you that this meeting will be interesting and, for the sake of time, only current members of the circle will participate. However, we welcome you to come see how this group functions. We will begin with an introduction to the types of decisions that get made by the anchor circle, the process we use to make those decisions, and how members of the anchor circle are selected. Please join us!
