EXTINCTION REBELLION TRANSFORM WALL STREET BULL TO PROTEST CLIMATE DESTRUCTION AND GREED ON EARTH DAY

New York, NY — In a bold Earth Day action, Extinction Rebellion activists transformed the iconic Wall Street Bull into a powerful symbol of environmental resistance. In an artful, peaceful spectacle, the bull was depicted as defecating on Planet Earth under the rallying cry: "No More Bullshit: Stop the Greed, Protect the Planet."

The action exposes the deadly impact of unchecked greed by the world’s wealthiest. The 1%, responsible for more carbon emissions than 66 percent of humanity, are fueling climate collapse, a fact highlighted by a 2023 Oxfam report projecting 1.3 million heat-related deaths between 2020 and 2030.

Leading the creative protest were renowned artists Kristin Jones and Lynn Cole, who, along with a team of volunteers, created the installation without damaging the famous symbol of aggressive capitalism. Their goal: to demand accountability from the super-rich and to call for an urgent transition away from an extractive economic system.

“Our society depends upon a stable climate. We are experiencing the sixth mass extinction, funded by these robber barons of industry. We are fighting back — we need a just transition off a dying, predatory capitalist system,” said Dancing Leaf, an organizer with Extinction Rebellion NYC.

Recent studies further underscore the urgency: a 2024 report published in PLOS Climate revealed that the wealthiest 10% of Americans are responsible for almost half of the United States' planet-heating pollution, not only through their personal consumption but also through fossil-fuel-heavy investments.

Kristin Jones, whose large-scale public art projects focus on environmental themes, is internationally recognized for her work, including her role in the master plan for Hudson River Park and as founder of Rome-based nonprofit Tevereterno. Jones is a three-time Fulbright Fellow, a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, and a graduate of RISD and Yale School of Art and Architecture. Learn more about her work.

Lynn Cole, a multidisciplinary artist working with both traditional and AI-driven tools, brings a vibrant mix of illustration, digital art, and animation to her advocacy. “I am by no means a serious person, but I am serious about art — and its power to inspire change,” said Cole. The Earth Day action was a vivid reminder: without immediate systemic change, the greed of a few will continue to endanger life on Earth. The artists and activists who gathered in Lower Manhattan demand a future defined not by profit, but by justice, sustainability, and collective survival.

ABOUT EXTINCTION REBELLION

Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses nonviolent civil disobedience to compel government action on the climate and nature emergency.

Extinction Rebellion exists because the conventional approaches: voting, writing to politicians and signing petitions, have failed. Powerful political and economic interests prevent change, as does our outdated political system itself. Our strategy is therefore one of nonviolent, disruptive civil disobedience – in short, it is a strategy of rebellion.

Climate boiling is here and now. It’s happening all around us, hitting some harder than others. Extinction Rebellion demands that all of us, especially major institutions and governments, tell the truth about the ongoing Sixth Mass Extinction. Extinction Rebellion believes that, when faced with the government’s criminal inaction, it is a citizen’s duty to rebel, through peaceful civil disobedience .

Internationally, Extinction Rebellion has been demanding that those with power act now to halt the worst outcomes of the climate catastrophe now unfolding. Unlike other climate advocacy groups, Extinction Rebellion understands that we must go beyond politics and establish Citizens’ Assemblies. Only in this way can we adequately achieve the fair and just transition we need.

Leading by example, Extinction Rebellion is fighting for a more stable, sustainable world.
